Conceived by the great Architect Gio Ponti and for years sponsored by the Rinascente Milano warehouses, the Compasso d’Oro since 1954 has been the most coveted award for all Architects/Designers.
Since 1958 it has passed into the hands of ADI ( Industrial Design Association), which is in charge of awarding the prizes.
ADI also created ,in Milan, the museum where all the works and ideas that won the great award are enclosed.
The purpose of the award was to highlight the quality of Italian design products, which was in its infancy at the time.
In the more than sixty years of the award, 350 ideas have been honored and more than 2,000 Honorable Mentions have been awarded.
